About Me

Hello!  I am Mrs. Hoppe (sort of like "happy") and the 2014-2015 school year is my 20th year as an educator, my 16th year in the Hueneme School District.  I got my teaching credential from California State University Long Beach and taught for 4 years in Downey, Ca.  My family and I moved to Oxnard in 1999 and I began teaching 4th and 5th grades that fall.   A few years later, I earned my Master's degree from Azusa Pacific University in Educational Technology.  I also hold a certificate from University of California, Santa Barbara specializing in teaching gifted students and in 2009, I became a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of teaching literacy.  I have spent 15 years teaching elementary school, and the past 4 years teaching 6th grade at the jr. high level.  In fact, one of my most proud moments was being selected as an "Amazing Educator and Advocate in an Academic Setting" by the 2012-13 Renaissance Club of Blackstock students.

Okay, honestly, being named 2014 Ventura County Teacher of the Year... that was pretty cool, too.  I am really proud to represent all the amazing teachers not only in this district, but in this county. Many of them have welcomed me into their classrooms and I have learned much of what I know from them.

As you get to know me, I hope you find how passionate I am about education. I believe the key to success in the future lies in treating others well and thinking like a scholar:  persevere, practice, know there is always more to learn, ponder things that catch your attention. If it is worth having, it is worth working for
; I know that to be true! I think I have the best job in the world, and wouldn't want to do anything else.

I have taught in a classroom with a few old computers at the back of the room, and in a 1:1 Chromebook environment.  I look forward to using this blog to share my share ways to guide students toward success using technology. It is very exciting to be on a new horizon in education in so many ways.  I am intentionally reinventing myself as a teacher in my current role as district technology resource teacher, not ever letting myself say "this is how I have always done it". I love reflecting and redesigning every step of the way.  Thanks for joining me!
